World's Largest Carpet
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/6924647.stm
Iran has unveiled what it says is the world's largest handmade carpet, a vast green and red floor covering that is larger than a football pitch.
The carpet, which took 1,200 weavers some 18 months to make, is destined for a mosque in the United Arab Emirates.
Measuring 5,625 sq m (60,546 sq ft), the carpet was made in nine separate segments with 2.2 billion knots.
It was woven in Iran's north-eastern province of Khorasan and is worth an estimated $5.8m (£2.8m).
Half of that sum is destined for the local area in Khorasan, where it was produced using about 38 tons of wool and cotton.

Simpsons, the movie
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/6287064.stm
The US town of Springfield, Vermont, has beaten 13 rivals and will host the premiere of the film about the animated family The Simpsons.
The show is set in a fictional Springfield because its creator, Matt Groening, spotted that it is one of the most common place-names in the US.
The premiere is on 21 July, ahead of national US release on 27 July.
The town of just over 9,000 residents got 15,367 votes, beating the Illinois entry by 733, according to USA Today, which conducted the poll.
The other contenders were in the states of Colorado, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, Ohio and Tennessee.

First IVF Baby - 1978
http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/july/25/newsid_2499000/2499411.stm
July 25th, 1978
The birth of the world's first "test tube baby" has been announced in Manchester.
Weighing 5lb 12oz (2.61 kg) the baby was delivered by caesarean section because her mother, Lesley Brown, was suffering from toxaemia.
Mrs Brown, 29, has blocked fallopian tubes so she and her husband, 39, have been undergoing in vitro fertility treatment.
Louise Brown's financial future has been assured by the sale of newspaper rights for her story worth about £300,000.
Louise Brown celebrated her 21st birthday in 1999, by which time 300,000 women worldwide had conceived through IVF.
The success rate for IVF treatment has remained at 17%.
More than 70% of IVF clinics are in the UK and 80% of them charge £3,000 for each cycle of treatment.
The process has attracted concern because embryos have been mixed up in the laboratory and the chance of multiple IVF births increased in the 1990s from one in 200 to one in 20.

Tummy fat can grow new breasts
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/6283444.stm
Fat from the tummy or bottom could be used to grow new breasts in a treatment which could be carried out in an hour - or a lunch break.
Scientists say they can create a fat mixture with concentrated stem cells, which, when injected into the breast, apparently encourages tissue to grow.
The therapy, detailed in Chemistry and Industry Magazine, could help cancer patients who have had mastectomies.
And if licensed, it may rival silicone for those seeking bigger breasts.
Using fat from the patient's own body to rebuild other areas is not a novel idea, but such reconstructions often fail as the fat is simply reabsorbed.
However using fat-derived stem cells appears to overcome this problem, according to the company behind the procedure, Cytori Therapeutics.
The procedure - dubbed Celution - could be carried out in an hour.
Fat from the either the stomach, bottom or thigh can be taken out with a standard liposuction procedure, and the stem cells then extracted.
These cells are placed into a cartridge ready for injection one hour later. The company says the breasts will then fill out over the course of six months.
The largest trial so far has involved 19 women in Japan. All of them had had at least partial mastectomies and all responded well to the treatment, with no major side-effects.
Clinical trials are continuing, and the company hopes to introduce the therapy to Europe in early 2008.
It is expensive - costing a few thousand pounds per cartridge, but this is not dissimilar to the price of conventional surgery.
