Viagra Cures Jetlag

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/6676585.stm

Viagra could be used to help people flying eastwards recover from jetlag, animal research suggests.

A team of Argentine scientists found the drug helped hamsters recover up to 50% faster from forward shifts in their daily time cycles.

Injection of Viagra before the time shift meant the hamsters adjusted to the new time cycle faster, even when low doses of the drug, which did not cause penile erections, were used.

The study features in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Shahi, Sarah

http://blackdcc.net/page47.html

Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Alumna Sarah Shahi

New York Magazine: Tony Soprano’s Fear and Loathing–style swing through Vegas on May 13th episode introduced America to the character of Sonya Aragon, representing what’s sure to become a new male-fantasy archetype: the gorgeous stripper with a heart of gold and a mound of peyote. (Of course, Sonya is stripping her way through college -- which Chris Rock has dismissed as “the stripper myth”!) The character left men (and not a few women) with one question in their minds: Who was that girl? It’s Sarah Shahi, a 27-year-old former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. Sarah’s birth name was Aahoo Jahansouzshahi.

Iranian-Americans traveling to Iran

http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1142.html

Dual nationals must enter and depart the United States on U.S. passports.

U.S. citizens who were born in Iran, who have become naturalized citizens of Iran, or who were at one time citizens of Iran, and the children of such persons, are considered Iranian nationals by Iranian authorities. Therefore, despite the fact that these individuals possess U.S. citizenship, they must enter and exit Iran bearing an Iranian passport. Exit visas are required for dual nationals to depart Iran.

U.S. passports are valid for travel to Iran. However, U.S.-Iranian dual nationals have in the past been denied permission to enter/depart Iran documented as U.S. citizens and have had their U.S. passports confiscated upon arrival, unless they have renounced their Iranian citizenship. Nevertheless, in recent years the Iranian Government has become more lenient with dual nationals and rarely confiscates U.S. passports of U.S. – Iranian dual nationals. As a precaution, however, it is advisable for U.S.-Iranian dual nationals to obtain in their Iranian passports the necessary visas for the country that they will transit upon their return to the U.S. so that, if their U.S. passports are confiscated, they may apply for a new U.S. passport in that country.

Alternately, dual nationals whose U.S. passports are confiscated may obtain a “Confirmation of Nationality” from the U.S. Interests Section of the Embassy of Switzerland, which is the U.S. protecting power. This statement, addressed to the relevant foreign embassies in Tehran, enables the travelers to apply for third-country visas in Tehran.

Most Overpriced R/E Markets

http://promo.realestate.yahoo.com/Americas_Most_Overpriced_Real_Estate_Markets.html

So which markets are in bubble territory? Look for a high P/E ratio, low affordability, low income growth and a high cost of living.

San Francisco, ranked fourth, fits that bill. Despite home prices growing at a 2% clip over last year, according to the NAR, the city by the bay ranks third to last in expected income growth, reports Moody's. Not good news in a market where only 7.5% of housing is affordable for the median-income earner. Combine that with a housing P/E ratio over 50, and it isn't difficult to imagine some softening on the horizon.

The usual suspects littered our list: Miami came in second, followed in order by: Sacramento, Calif.; San Francisco; Washington, D.C.; Honolulu; New York; Los Angeles; and Boston. San Jose, Calif., rounded out the top 10.

Fonts

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/6638423.stm

Helvetica celebrates 50th birthday.

Helvetica's message is this: you are going to get to your destination on time; your plane will not crash; your money is safe in our vault; we will not break the package; the paperwork has been filled in; everything is going to be OK.

You've probably endorsed Helvetica yourself by using one of its digital clones, the Arial typeface, to write e-mails - perhaps because it's easy to read, because it looks reassuring familiar or because it may be the default font on your system.

It uses subliminal messages so that you get a feeling. All of these different meanings are implied within typefaces.

Hence the font Frutiger is used for airports and European motorway signs, New Johnston is the choice of London Underground, Cooper Black for Easyjet, and Dunkin Donuts bears the unmistakable Frankfurter font.

Blushing

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/6618749.stm

The function of blushing, in evolutionary terms, could once have been to signal that someone had made an accidental mistake, admitting to an error and so avoiding a confrontation. But there are people who are so self-conscious about blushing they have operations to prevent it, cutting the nerve that creates the blush.

Instead of feeling awkward about being easily embarrassed, Professor Crozier says it's a sign of greater emotional intelligence.

A prerequisite for embarrassment is to be able to feel how others feel - you have to be empathetic, intelligent to the social situation.

But what do we do when it happens, and how best to recover?

"The best way to deal with embarrassment is to talk about it," says workplace psychologist Gary Fitzgibbon. "If you skulk off, you're left with it. You mustn't let the embarrassment dominate."

Once you admit to what's happened and talk about it, everyone will feel much more relaxed and they'll be laughing with you rather than at you.

America, Should it Continue?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6613861.stm

The US is a nation built not on ethnicity, not on religion, not even on history but on an idea.

Not only does this make America different, I would argue it also makes it ideally suited for the 21st Century. We live in a globalised world in which national boundaries are less and less relevant and the citizenship of ideas is more and more defining.
